Serpent Cult

One thing is clear about the Serpent cult - they existed. This enigmatic and almost unknown religious cult not only existed, its spread itself around the globe like a great leviathan and encircled all that came in its way. For decades, if not centuries, historians have grappled with the intricacies of the "ophites" (serpent worshippers) and have never come to a unified and coherent conclusion. Now in The Serpent Grail and other works and articles I have managed to clear up much of the confusion and we are left with a startling picture - that the world once worshipped the snake.

Sub paragraph 1 What Did They Worship?

It has always been an easy way out to say that these movements or early religious establishments worshipped the snake - which is true. But, the snake was worshipped as a symbol. I discovered this to have two layers. On the first, practical level the snake gave its followers a whole host of methods for healing - from its very own skin and flesh to the venom and blood. On a more esoteric level, the snake became the symbol of true ultimate wisdom and thus slithered its way into the secret societies of the world under the Gnostic guise. In various twists and turns on the slippery slope the various elements - esoteric enlightenment, healing and wave pattern phenomena - crept into the stories of the Holy Grail, the Elixir of Life and alchemy itself.

Sub Paragraph 2 Where?

Where can these serpent worshippers be found. Everybody has a Bible somewhere. Go and pull it out and blow the dust off, for the worship of the serpent is found within its very pages. Moses raises a Brazen Serpent in the wilderness, Eve is tempted by the snake - for wisdom and knowledge and even Jesus himself is equated with the serpent itself.

Sub Paragraph 3 Today?

Where can we find clues to this ancient past today? Well we need only take a look on the side of an ambulance or any number of medical iconography to discover that the serpent is indeed still venerated at a healing emblem. We will also discover the serpent upon thousands of Christian buildings, churches and cathedrals. Often the snake is seen wrapped around a pole as the thrysos or double serpents as the caduceus, but also staring into a mirror, as one should look within oneself for true wisdom to come out.
